How Do You Invert the Colors of an Image?
To invert the colors of an image, add the picture to the tool above with Invert selected and click Download; every color is replaced by its opposite, so black becomes white and blue becomes yellow, and nothing is uploaded.
- Add the picture.
- Check the preview.
- Download the negative.
What Does Invert Do?
For each pixel the red, green and blue values are replaced by 255 minus the original value. Doing it twice gives back the original picture exactly, so it is safe to experiment; save as PNG if you want that to hold, because JPG re-compresses the file. Transparency is not changed.
Is Inverting the Same as Fixing a Film Negative?
Not quite. Color film negatives have an orange tint, so simply inverting a scan leaves a color cast that needs correcting. Read how to convert a film negative to a positive photo for the full steps.
