The Technology
imgmend uses Real-ESRGAN (Real Enhanced Super-Resolution Generative Adversarial Network), a deep learning model developed by Xintao Wang et al. and published at ICCV 2021. It was trained on millions of image pairs to distinguish real photographic detail from noise and compression artifacts — and to reconstruct the original clean image.
Unlike traditional denoising methods that simply blur the image, Real-ESRGAN removes noise while preserving — and often sharpening — genuine edges, textures, and fine detail.
Background removal uses a dedicated subject-detection model specifically trained on complex edges — hair, fur, transparent objects — to produce pixel-accurate cutouts. Watermark removal uses inpainting: the AI reconstructs the region behind the watermark using surrounding pixel context, seamlessly filling the gap.
Built by an Independent Developer
imgmend is an independent project — not a VC-backed startup or a big-company product. It was built by a solo developer frustrated by how complicated and expensive professional image editing tools are for everyday users.
The goal was simple: take state-of-the-art AI models (Real-ESRGAN, RMBG, stable diffusion inpainting) and make them accessible in a browser, free, with no friction. No account, no download, no watermark on results, no subscription.
imgmend launched in early 2025. The free tier exists because image quality tools should be accessible to everyone — not just professionals who can afford $50/month software. The Pro plan ($9.99 one-time) keeps the lights on and funds continued development.

imgmend is free for everyone. Free users can process up to 3 images per day with no account required. Downloads include a subtle watermark.
The Pro plan ($9.99 one-time payment, not a subscription) removes the watermark and unlocks unlimited daily processing. It's a single payment that never expires.

Your Privacy
imgmend does not store your photos. Images are sent to the AI processing API in real time and discarded immediately after the result is returned. Your photos are never stored on our servers, never shared with third parties, and never used for training or any other purpose.
No account is required, which means no email address, no password, and no personal data is collected just to use the tool. The free plan operates entirely anonymously.
